PUBLISH WITH MET PRESSAs of April 2009, MET Press / Modern English Tanka Press is not soliciting nor accepting new manuscripts for equity publication except from our existing equity authors. The below links lead to guidance on equity publishing with MET Press. “Equity Publishing Services, Pass-Through Costs, Perquisites, Profit-Sharing.” “METP Guidelines for Equity Publishing Book Projects with Partners.” We do have other publishing arrangements you might wish to consider(see them in the right column). If so, please email us at DMG@THEMETPRESS.COM. We must see a manuscript before we can indicate any interest in publishing it. Please send any manuscript to us attached to an email in a word-processing file. Corel WordPerfect files (*.wpd) are preferred as we use it for layout. Microsoft Word (*.doc) is acceptable, as are Rich Text Format files (*.rtf) and ASCII text files (*.txt). Click to go to Making Payment to MET Press. |
MET Press will consider manuscripts under either purchase or author-sales arrangements. 1. Purchase Option. If we like a manuscript very much indeed, we may purchase it outright. This would mean no royalty payments at all for any and all sales of the MET Press edition of the work. Given the economic realities and the unlikelihood of high volume sales, our purchase offer would likely be no more than $50.00 (fifty) USD. An author whose manuscript we purchase outright may purchase up to 40 (forty) copies of the published book directly from the publisher at a discounted author’s rate (viz., unit cost + [{retail price – unit cost} ÷ 2]). All subsequent purchases must be made at full price from the retail vendor (currently, Lulu.com). 2. Author-sales Option. This option facilitates authors’ marketing and selling their own books. Again, no royalties and, also, no purchase amount. The quid pro quo is this: MET Press assumes the governmental compliance costs of publication, so the author does not participate in the up-front publishing costs as equity authors do. The author is obligated to make one bulk purchase directly from the publisher of 50 (fifty) copies at the initial author’s rate (unit cost + [{retail price – unit cost} ÷ 3]). MET Press recoups its costs through that first bulk purchase. Subsequently, the author may make as many bulk purchases as wanted directly from the publisher at a deeply-discounted rate (unit cost + [{retail price – unit cost} ÷ 10]). The author retains all profits made on author-sales. MET Press sells the title, e.g., on its website(s), and retains all profits on those sales. |
