the cry
of returning geese—
I bed down

watching
rain spots stain my window
her tears

inland haar
a gull’s shadow
climbs the granite

studying moths...
the penny drops

kitchen worktop—
the breadbin pushed aside
by her buns

looking
over my shoulder
the Scots pine
