Saijiki-X is an experimental poetic almanac, exploring areas not traditionally included in saijikis (haiku almanacs). It is not meant to replace any other saijiki, rather it is looking into what might be useful supplements to the usual almanacs.

The premise of a keyword, or context-setting word, calls for revisiting even long used words when the context for the perception that adheres to that word has changed significantly. For example, one of the top ten traditional words is "moon." But the world has changed and "moon" can set a very different context now. See the sample haiku under "moon" in the category "Extraterrestial."

We are beginning with some ideas about contexts that would have been at the edge of or beyond the experience of the haijin from Basho to Shiki. Surely, we will make some mistakes and we hope our readers and WHC participants will correct and improve our ideas.
